I'm not sure if this is the right thread, but speaking of tag poisoning, someone tagged around 150 posts (all the same posts, from what I can tell) with tags that are nothing but Battlestar Galactica spoilers (e.g, Adama_gets_shot_by_boomer). I've cleaned up maybe half a dozen so far, but I'd really like to know where I can report it (or if there even is such a place) so it can get removed faster.

post #520413 has most of them.

It's simple, limit tagging rights to those who aren't retarded and won't mess it up. Tagging shouldn't be a privilage to just anyone. Just those who are competent enough to label things according to an images content. My suggestion is to lock the tagging and have people contact you if they wish to tag so, you then may monitor the abuse and prevent idiocy on the site.

warforce, I mostly agree with your first idea (a user-indexed list of tags), but I think that allowing users to revert to a previous date for tagging is an opening for people to carry out vendettas against users they don't like. We already have that problem with Kanrabat's posts, in fact -- some idiot(s) who are giving all his posts (and other people's comments who comment positively) negative votes. I think that such reversion should be only possible by the janitors/mods, with users being able to flag problems for them.

maniacal_tentacle_m, the absurdres images don't really bog down the system. Yes, it can take awhile to load them if you're not on a fast, broadband connection, but there aren't that many of them, relative to other images, and you know as soon as you click on a thumbnail that you're accessing one and can just hit the "stop" button if you don't want to wait. I actually prefer these, myself. I can always rescale them if I want to.

tsochar, that link you gave is to a pretty "vanilla" image that isn't, as far as I can tell, BG-related. Are you sure you gave us the right link, or were you implying that someone is just randomly tagging unrelated images with those spoilers?

Unbroken_Soul, I've suggested, before, that tagging needs to be restricted only to people who have logged into their accounts, but lozertuser has nixed that idea. Firstly, this would require some re-programming of the software, and secondly, it might well create more problems than it solves -- mainly people creating accounts just so they can do mischief. Your idea has some merit, I think, but would likely create a backlash from all the anonymous taggers who actually exhibit some responsibility in tagging.

Ferryt, the tags that tsochar made me aware of have all been reverted back to the point of them not being just a long bit of spoilers for Battlestar. (Who still watches that show anyway?)

Also, I believe we already require users to log in to edit tags. Since for a long while due to spam bots. The code has been altered to allow a fast toggle for me to turn on anonymous editing. Same with uploading. (I'm trying to think of what I turned down.)

I wasn't aware that you had to be logged in to edit tags, since I'm always logged in when I'm here. I believe I brought up the idea that people should be logged in to tag images and you objected to that for a number of reasons, although I can't point out the posts. Am I to assume, then, that you can tag an image anonymously, but can't edit them anonymously?

No, you can not upload nor edit tags anonymously. Not yet at least. Not enough Moderators in training (AKA Janitors) to do this.
