Yeah, it was scary news, I had just ordered about 10 drives at that period for the server and luckily they were all older models.
As a note to users who own a bricked drive, Seagate is offering data recovery for users affected by the bug. You must have that version of firmware pre-existing on the drive.

Server bandwidth upgraded to a dedicated 100mbps. Let's see how this all works out.
*Edit* Updated the 4u power saver so I can reuse parts here I already have. Cost went up a bit but the server is future proofed.
