Loss of Internet connection whilst logging in?
Posted on: 05/02/09 10:24PM

A pretty bizarre problem... Ever since upgrading to a wireless network, more often than not when I attempt to log in here my connection is cut, and it may be some time before it returns (though I'm already logged in when it reconnects). This happens on no other websites - what's going on here?

I'm not sure about this one. Does your internet die for a long time before being able to access any website again, or just access to this site is cut out?

If your wireless provider has, for some reason, blacklisted this site they have the ability to cut your Internet connection if they so choose. That, however, is improbable, and the fact that you posted your question seems to indicate that it isn't the case. Therefore, accessing this website cannot be your problem.

There might be something really funky going on with your Domain Name Server, but that's just a guess and I have no evidence to indicate that it could even affect you like this.

That, to me, leaves only one viable possibility. You have a flaky Internet connection and what you've experienced is nothing more than coincidence, since there's nothing can happen on the website end of proceedings to cut someone's Internet connection.

losertuser: access to all websites are cut. Most of the time it only takes a minute or so to restore, but occasionally it has lasted for about an hour or more.

Ferryt: it's plausible that my ISP would consider blocking this site (though it doesn't contain anything illegal under UK law), but like you said, I can still get here eventually and blocked sites *stay* blocked.
I can buy that my connection is shoddy, but while it may cut out inexplicably elsewhere, here it's like clockwork. This site? Fine. That site? Fine. Gelbooru? OMG NOOOOO

It just strikes me as peculiar that it's come about as soon as I went wireless. For what it's worth my router itself doesn't appear to be the problem; my Xbox, for example, still remains connected, which suggests it is a problem with my PC itself. I've considered the possibility of viruses, but no scans come up with anything. Is this just going to be a mystery for the ages?
