Head-blobs...
Posted on: 06/08/09 02:19AM

I'm just wondering... Is there a term for those weird head-blob things. They appear very commonly in Touhou pictures, but also appear in other pictures, too...

Touhou example: www.gelbooru.com/index.ph...&s=view&id=509441

Other (Dennou Coil) example: www.gelbooru.com/index.ph...&s=view&id=415185

Don't waste your time, Kanrabat. It's mostly us(me and Ferryt) talking about stuff that doesn't tie into the thread. There are SOME bits and pieces here and there, but Nothing major. However, it is interesting to read up until the last ones where we decided that IT was best to just get back to the purpose of the thread.

I think there was something like that in Volcaloid; it's got this octopus head thing going on instead though, I don't know if that's a character or the term that may be used to describe the character form but It seems relevant to what you are asking.

Otherwise, are there enough of them to warrant a tag? If there are about 14 instances it would warrant one.

Do you mean 14 different pictures? If so, then there are more than enough to deserve a tag. I just don't know what they're called...

Also, the name of the squid-head version of that vocaloid is Takoluka. It's a pun of some sorts based on her name, and is not a general term to describe the head-blobs.

Here's a picture, for anyone who does not know who Takoluka is: www.gelbooru.com/index.ph...&s=view&id=445126

...Did all that searching and your Touhou example already had it.
yukkuri_shiteitte_ne, I think it roughly translates into "Take it easy" or something. There might be a shorter term for them, but I don't remember exactly what it is.

So we're basically talking about disembodied or misplaced heads, right? I seriously doubt that enough of us speak Japanese to be able to translate "yukkuri shiteitte ne", and if it really means "take it easy", then this is a meaningless tag for the vast majority of users, here, since it apparently has nothing at all to do with what it appears to be tagging. I've seen others like this -- Japanese terms, sometimes very long multi-word terms that in some cases are the names of mangas or other works, it would appear, but more often than not aren't. They might be useful to me ... if I understood Japanese, but I don't (not without translation software which does a really sucky job of translating Japanese to English).

My suggestion (lozertuser are you listening?) is that tags like this *need* to have English aliases that make sense to the majority of our users. This is a board for Japanese content, but I'll bet that almost all of our users have English as the first language and understand very little, if any Japanese.

In checking over the latest posts, I came across this image (warning -- tentacle rape).

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=519426

This is one of those "in one end and out the other" images that really stretch my ability to suspend disbelief in hentai, seeing that it's impossible, in the first place. That's not the issue, though. What I'd like to know is if we already have some obscure tag that describes this phenomenon. If not, can anyone suggest a short tag name, because I can't think of one?

Next issue (warning -- straight shota):

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=519394

This image has the tag "black_star". Thinking that this might be a character tag I did a Gelbooru search on "black_star" and discovered that it *might* be, since one of the elements common to many of the pictures is a black-haired woman. On the other hand, that grey/blue-haired kid also appears in many of them. On yet another hand, "nakatsukasa_tsubaki", which could also be a name tag brings up a similar series of images, many containing that same black-haird woman. Going to Wikipedia I find that Black Star is the name of a ninja in Soul Eater (clearly described as male), and a little further sleuthwork uncovered an image of cosplay involving "Black Star" and seemed to verify the blue hair. So, "Black Star" does not appear to be the name of the black-haired woman. On yet another hand, we have this image:

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=408813

Again, the black-haired woman and a mostly unseen male character who isn't (at least to me) identifiable except, perhaps, by the gloves which I've seen on a male character in some other "black_star" images. And, here she is again, in a *solo* picture, again tagged "black_star".

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=397248

Can anyone shed a little light on this mystery?

That phrase (yukkuri_shiteitte_ne) is associated with the Reimu head (it was the caption on the original picture that started the meme), but I'm not sure if it is the correct term to refer to them in general...

Also black_star and nakatsukasa_tsubaki are both characters in the anime Soul Eater. black Star is the silver haired assasin who looks and acts very similarly to a certain famous ninja (Naruto)... He's very immature. His sidekick/patner is Tsubaki. They are usually pictured together. The two people in the first picture kind of resemble Black Star and his weapon, Tsubaki Nakatsukasa. The person in the other two pictures who is clearly visible is Tsubaki, with only a part of Black Star visible in the middle picture. Tsubaki can transform into a variety of weapons, so if you don't see her in a picture that is tagged with her name, she is probably the weapon that Black Star is holding.

OK, finally found what I was looking for!
touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Yukkuri_shiteitte_ne!

The heads are referred to as Yukkuri (different Yukkuri depicting different characters have various "species" names, all outlined in the article). The phrase literally translates to "Do it slowly!", but is usually translated as "Take it easy!"

So, technically, images with the "head blobs" in them could be tagged as yukkuri_shiteitte_ne(!), or just yukkuri.

That's just too weird. But at least we now have a mystery solved. Thanks, biibii!
