What about those of us who like reading people's comments about those kinds of pictures? Although I generally dislike guro, I find many of their comments (at least, the ones that are not pro/con arguments) rather humorous...

There really should be a button in the options screen that could turn this filter on or off, because I don't want to press the "hidden" button every time and view my blacklisted items in order to view the rest of the comments...

EDIT: Wait a minute... Do they even appear when we press "hidden"? I could not find any...

If you have guro in your tag blacklist they will not appear if you search for guro. It will give you a chicken message. Remove guro from your tag blacklist if you wish to view something you didn't want to view previously. Bookmark the discussion images, or put them in your favorites to keep track of them. Maybe, when pools come around, you can put all the guro discussion images into a pool so users can go there to talk about it. Of course these will probably be hidden by default.

I was talking about the comments page, not the regular image search. I remember seeing alot of guro images in there in the past few days, and suddenly, they are all gone.

I looked over past comments and, unless I somehow overlooked them, they are not there. (guro is not in my blacklist)

Oh, comment page will not display the tags listed in the notice area. No matter what. There will be no toggle.

Well, this is a dramatic failure.
So what happens in a few week or months when spurred on by this victory someone starts going on about how sick lolicon is, or how sick tentacles are, or how sick agent_orange is, or about how sacrilegious it is to post anything at all because it will be offensive to some religion somewhere?

Do you have a line in the sand somewhere that you're willing to stand up and defend because this time you personally have favoritism for it, or are you just going to incrementally shut down gelbooru bit by bit every time someone whines about having content for whatever reason?

I'm sorry you feel this way rkyeun, you may go visit some gore chan if you want to openly discuss guro with others who enjoy it. If you have noticed, the people commenting on the images were flaming the person who uploaded it. I don't like it, I don't want to view it, and I sure as hell don't want to moderate comments on it.

Users keep bumping guro images to the top of the list encouraging other users to come in and flame on the person who bumped it leading us into a spiral of bumps to the top. Rather than just banning guro, toddlercon and other things I personally find disgusting, I felt the better option is just to mitigate the problem and remove it from the comment list. This way no accessibility is lost, just the publicity of the flamewars being started.

I have put up with guro images and comments on them for well over a year. It has recently gotten carried away. If you're so sad that it isn't on the comment list, I can always take it a step further and just ban it outright from being put on the site. Would you rather that?

I think that if you went that far, it would make you very unpopular. We should at least be able to toggle it on or off from our user profiles, so that only regestered users can see them.

I don't believe there should be an outright ban. Why not disable Anonymous posting for a little bit? That would weed out the cowards who troll said images.

And rykeun, go get your troll jollies elsewhere. Tagging posts with "flamewar" does nothing to help out.

My two bits ...

I don't like guro. I don't like scat. These are deal-breakers for me. I don't like 95% of toddlercon, either. I still wouldn't want to see a ban on these things because I detest meaningless censorship.

I don't like cutting off discussion of them, either. However, I *do* believe that the best solution, here, is to require a user to be logged into his account to post comments on images tagged "guro", "scat", or "toddlercon". That would effectively wipe out much of the flaming, I think, and maintain the Sword of Damoclese as a symbol for those who still might be tempted.
