changing the names of tags

So there's this tag called "legendia," right. I wanted to change it into the "tales_of_legendia" tag in hopes that all 8 images under "legendia" would move to the specific tag. So I went under Tags page and clicked edit and changed the name, but nothing happened -- "legendia" still exists.

So, is it impossible to do or something? I'm guessing it's to keep people from accidentally erasing whole tags, right? If so, I guess this means I'll have to go through each image and edit their tag to remove legendia and add tales_of_legendia. Same deal with making names more specific (shirley_fennes instead of just shirley).

Oh by the way, do you guys go lastname_firstname or firstname_lastname?

What is wrong with the tags? Seriously, it comes up with an error if you try to change anything.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, Deuxsonoic. It's quite easy to change a tag. Let's say that Slyster added "tales_of_" onto "legendia", this wouldn't alter the system-wide stored tag, but it would change the tag for that specific image to "tales_of_legendia", creating a new system-wide tag if one didn't already exist by that name.

It might be better, in this case to do that and then create an alias between "legendia" and "tales_of_legendia" so that people searching on "legendia" are automatically directed to the longer name in their search. Ultimately, it would be better if it were changed to the preferred tag every image, but that's just no feasible with some of the miss-tagged images, here.

No, Slyster, as far as I know there's no way to do a global replace. I wish there were ... and a way to block certain tags from being used on posts when they are aliased.

It was a bug that appeared during the problem during the upgrade. Should be fixed now. :)
