Calling all taggers
Posted on: 07/06/09 06:33PM

I've been going through the tagme section for a while and there's something like 14000 images that might need more tags there.

But what I'd really like is for some people to click random, since that's the only way to really find some with only 1 or 2 tags, and ADD tagme to them. I've already done this to about a hundred images that really really need tags. So just an idea for you taggers out there.

Ah, thanks, I've been thinking about something like that for some time now. Good idea with the random approach. I'll join you on your mission!

Counting Beans?

If You want to do it the hard way, be my guest.
An easier approach for Taggers would be to go to the "Tag" Link and in the search box, input an Asterisk(*) or two to get the complete list of tags(You'll have to wait a While for the list to load, be sure you have something else to do in the mean time and Aren't doing anything Internet related). You will find that Many Many of the first tags listed have only 1 to 11 tags assigned to them.

But again, counting beans, its a LONG LONG List.

List has been limited to 1,000 or so results to prevent the page from loading all 45MB of data.

I think crimsonsani was thinking more along the lines of adding tagme's to images with fewer tags, rather than killing hardly used tags (which is also a good idea).

Edit: Shouldn't there be a database operation where you can say "for images with < x tags, add 'tagme'"? (Server-side, I mean)

It would be better if we did this after we have tagged all the "tagme" pictures that already exist, and removed them from the tagme list. As is it seems sort of self defeating to add even more tagme tags before we are done with the first job.

Another major tagging problem is misspelled tags. I have been going into the tag section and writing things like brown*, black* (or any color or description, followed by a *), *hair and *eyes, finding many misspelled tags in the process.

Just think of a word that can have many different words added in front of or behind it, and work from there. This won't catch every misspelled tag, but it is a good place to start.

If you're purposefully looking for misspelled tags, the tag search is great. Do whatever searches and sort by tag count, the ones with very low counts (often 1) lets you see a good amount of bad tags (including misspellings).

I think it would be great to have the server automatically add tagme, I would add that it might be preferred to do it only once (if some images don't have much to tag).

td;dr - I love tag search, it is awesome.

One other thing, would it be possible/useful to have the ability to search images based on their number of tags?
