At the moment, the entire internet is slow for me.
Both my high speed and backup slower one are going at about the same pace.

Our images are currently being served from a server in The Netherlands. You may be experiencing latency issues due to this.

On a side note, some gifs don't load for me at all, unless I view the original image by itself. Would this also be due to the server?

Do you mean that they don't load, or that only the first frame loads?
If it's the latter, you may just be viewing the sample image. Our samples for animated GIFs are not animated.
