So, from what I've seen, many people use it for wrong reasons, such as, the picture being larger or taller than their monitor (possibly larger or taller than X times their monitor's width or height). I wouldn't call that absurd, only "high" resolution... and still, that depends on what your monitor resolution is : to me, 1600x1200 is not even "high res".
I believe "absurdres" should mean something like "that picture has been upscaled so much that it lost quality, and now it looks ugly", unless perhaps you downscale it back. And such pictures should be flagged for deletion, because of their low quality.
Thus, to sum it up, the "absurdres" tag itself is absurd, and shall not be used.

Absurdres images can also be vector images which can be exported to any size without losing any quality. Absurdres as a tag shall stay, however, you are free to retag images which are obviously not correctly marked.
To me absurdres is something that wouldn't fit even on two monitors at the current saved resolution. I'd say something that is 4000 pixels in either direction is absurd.
Danbooru states it as
Very high resolution images. An image with this tag should be at least 3200 pixels wide or 2400 pixels tall.
I like absurdres art. I use a couple 21" monitors and I like to have the highest-quality copy of an image, even if it's much larger than what I can display, because I like knowing I have that quality. Even better is if people shared the vectors so that everyone could scale them however they wanted.
