Your thoughts on ratings
Posted on: 03/17/16 02:02AM

For reference: gelbooru.com/index.php?page=wiki&s=view&id=2535

While Gelbooru is not likely to change its rating system any time soon, I was curious to see what other users think about it.

To this end I will ask the question: If Gelbooru was your site, what would the rating system be?

I'll start off by adding my two cents.

Rating:safe -
- Anything non-sexual of course
- Comedic or casual nudity not showing genitals. (nonowa, chibi, out-of-frame)
- Anatomically correct and non-anthropomorphic animals not engaged in mating behavior.
- Feminine breasts/nipples including expression, breast feeding or spontaneous lactation.
- Depictions of urination where the genitals are not shown, bed-wetting, puddle, diaper etc.
- Sexually suggestive in the sense that nothing explicit is really happening. (hand gestures, objects in mouth)

Rating:questionable -
- Any image where the genitals are visible but are not being sexually stimulated.
- Pubic hair
- May include natural body functions: urination, menstruation, spontaneous erection, nocturnal emission/spontaneous ejaculation (If the site where mine I might allow "normal" defecation here.)
- Sex toys if they aren't being used. dildos, vibrators, tenga. Use of anal toys allowed if not for stimulation such as tails.
- Sexually suggestive in the sense that something explicit may be happening off-screen.

Rating:explicit -
- Anything depicting the sexual stimulation of genitals: sex, oral, fingering, handjob, masturbation (Anal toys for males if used for/causing prostate stimulation.)
- The fluids resulting from such stimulation: precum, cum (from stimulation), pussy juice, (most aftersex)
- (I might allow scat here.)

I probably would just hide the points on every image only to be viewable for the site staff (people could still vote) and disable blacklisting for images below 0.
I don't really care about likes/dislikes and hate obscuring something just because some people don't like it.

I would take a more strict approach and add those into the Questionable category. This way it would be more Safe For Work.

I would've had the rating pretty much the same way. Except scat would definately be rated as explicit. Anything implying rape in some way without genitals would be questionable. And any post with genitals exposed would be rated strict (even posts with see through clothing).

I was talking about safe/questionable/explicit not the scoring system.

Rating safe never meant safe-for-work on Gelbooru however a system where rating:safe did mean safe-for-work is a legitimate plan I suppose.

Yes. Not having safe-for-work options really limits the possibilities within a site like that. (IMHO)

Safe posts are images that you would not feel guilty looking at openly in public. Pictures of nudes, exposed nipples or pubic hair, cameltoe, or any sort of sexually suggestive pose are NOT safe and belong in questionable. Swimsuits and lingerie are borderline cases; some are safe, some are questionable.

Yes it did.

Hmm, I was going to suggest safe actually mean SFW but I guess it was actually suppose to then?
