Solution to ANIMATED GIF to WEBM problem
Posted on: 01/09/18 02:54AM

Phone users can't view webms, and now animated gifs are converted to webms.

Having to click "view original image" for each gif is highly annoying.

Solution: Why not have an option where clicking an image leads directly to the original image (by itself)

Which phone are you using? Also, which browser?

In the mean time, try getting to VLC app. Then choose open with that. Works for my device.

I'm going to assume an Apple device. We are not going to support their format for the time being. Right now I am determining the impact of bandwidth from this one change before I spend another month processing all our GIF images with HEVC or h264.

Actually, I meant now you have to click "view original image" to view animated GIFS.

Clicking on "view original image" on the mobile version is very tedious, so someone should make "view original image" right below the picture.

Here's something magical.

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=337581

From what I've seen, all conversions kill at least one frame. So a single frame gif just flat out refuses to display, and all other animations are now slightly broken. I'm guessing really large gifs are not being converted.

And here's another random broken one, for some unknown reason.

One of those images weren't converted yet, the last one bugged out, possibly due to a race condition during the encoding process. We have multiple files being encoded at once, and it is possible the 2nd pass file was overwritten before it was read into the generation of the file, causing nothing to be put there. I'll run the tool once more to overwrite any small files once we complete converting the collection.

I used to think webms were going to be the future and gifs were done for.
But I think Gelbooru managed to find a way to ruin the concept of Webms. They are shit.

It's pretty much no different from what Imgur does to their uploads. They use a gifv container, inside said file they have mp4 link. So in reality it's no different from Gelbooru except we use a codec that is royalty free.

They just don't loop properly.
