TV Tropes Gelbooru Description
Posted on: 01/09/18 07:02AM

While browsing TVtropes, I noticed some sentences they wrote about Gelbooru:

Also has no qualms about more objectionably bad content, as images rejected by Danbooru as crap will usually be acceptable to Gelbooru. Doujinshi and artbook scans are prohibited, even though (unlike Danbooru), Gelbooru does not have a policy of removing images at the artist's request.

Is that really true? As far as I know bad quality pictures are usually being removed, especially stuff that's not drawn by a japanese person.
Also I've seen tags being completely wiped because of an artists request.

Are these descriptions outdated or am I missing something?

We remove poor-quality images, but our bar for quality is a lot lower than Danbooru's. Danbooru is picky as fuck about certain images.

We do remove images at the artist's request as long as they follow the proper procedure, though.

Also this. Very much yes. We greatly loosened our Japanese artists only rule in 2011. We now allow art by western artist if it is good quality and related to Japanese culture in some way. We have always allowed cosplay even by westerners as long as the photos look studio-quality. (No selfies please.)

Some of the most objectionably bad content, namely toddlercon, is no longer allowed.

We now have a DMCA request page where artists can request the removal of their art. They still have to prove to our site owner that they are the original artist.

We still limit it to Japanese furry. Western furry isn't allowed unless drawn by a Japanese artist.

Does this site allows furry artists from Taiwan, Malaysia, China, and other Asian countries?

Once and a while there may be one who draws in a "Japanese style" that we may allow only because it's not wholly off-topic. It is on an image-by-image basis in that case.

I forgot to mention that Japanese characters drawn by western/non-Japanese artists are allowed if the quality is good.
