If you could get gelbooru's source...

What would you do with it?

I'm thinking about releasing gelbooru's 0.1.9 version code (with a few administrative improvements making it a 0.1.10-12) when the 0.2.0 version is ready. The reason I'm thinking of doing this is because there is enough change to make any hacks found obsolete to the newer version. Also, a couple people actually seem interested in having their own *booru based off our code. Go figure!

Anyway, back to my question, what would you use this software for?

Requirements:

Windows Server 2003, IIS6 (Or Apache 2.2.9 / Linux / Windows XP)
MySQL v5.0.67 x64
PHP 5.2.6
RAMDisk (For thumbnails/cache)

Unlike those works, we don't have hundreds of volunteers, or staff to be coding our site. Just one. I make his job harder too with every tweak I make. Also, this wasn't exactly free for me! XD

Time is limited and we can't supply support for people who can't get something working. When you have a staff of two, and you get emails asking if the source is available every week by a new person, it's a bit hard to decide if it is a good idea to give it out. They will expect some sort of help if something breaks.

I have to weigh the options we have, problems that can arise from releasing our code, talk to geltas to see if he's willing to look back and fix a security bug in the old code if one appears, and then make the decision to release it to the public or keep it private.

But really, all I want to know is what you would do. Would you improve the code, look for exploits, create plugins or Firefox extensions, make a personal booru for yourself and your JB collection?

The files have been cleaned up a bit and it's pretty much ready to be released to everyone. It should see the light of day about a week or two after we convert to 0.2.0.

Oh I'm really looking forward to this. Finally I can organize my 50,000+ images on hdd. Server's ready and waiting for source. =)

No support needed except for a simple installation routine or some sort of help for the setup.
By the way is there any kind of mass add somewhere hidden in the code? If not it should'nt be to hard to just write some php script do mass add filenames to the database..... oh I'm really loking forward to this. ^^

There WAS a type of mass add, but you'd need xml documents generated for that process. The the mass importer files are not going to be included. It was slow and clunky. It will not work with this version. I don't want to waste geltas's time fixing it.

Alright. So I'll just have to do it myself then. ^^
Can't wait for 2.0 ;)

If I had it, sometime for sure I would try to port it to ASP.NET & MSSQL. Lol. I did once with an *chan Imageboard. Well, I stopped where it came to displaying the topics.

Ok, I have to admit, that sounds pretty interesting.

Maybe it is. If I get interested eneugh to rebuild, of course. Well, the Imageboard I did without any source. Just for the heck of it.

Maybe I'll finally get into the real stuff then. With DLL files and User Controls...

Im just doing programming like you would script in PHP right now. But since .NET has a whole lot more, im just scratching the surface. You can outsource parts of your website into DLLs... Or use a DLL to make URL Rewrites and add it to your website, rewriting all your urls.

No webserver module stuff needed there.
