Gumroad banned all NSFW content
Posted on: 03/26/24 12:55PM

Gumroad, a site to sell art, has banned all NSFW content as of March 21st.

Explicitly mentioning Strip and PayPal, this was a result of Gumroad bowing down to big payment processors, who each have had huge issues with porn and NSFW content beginning in 2020.

I've never used gumroad, but many NSFW artists on the western hemisphere have lamented that it sucks. Which it does. Badly.

Oof. That sucks.

PayPal has been recently making a lot of mistakes. Hope they don't mess with the Gelbooru store.

Credit Neutrality Act when? Today is porn, tomorrow, "political dissidents".
Basically, strip away credit card companies' rights to refuse services to anyone, if someone buys anything illegal i guess it can be tracked (like it is already). The ability to transfer money is a service like water and electricity, imagine not having access to those due to your political opinions or internet history.
America's greatest mistake was allowing goverment and corporations to intermingle.

It start with Gumroad, then it's whatever else is left, Pixiv, Fanbox, Subscribestar, even this place.

"The regime" (You know who i'm talking about) has invested so much in the porn industry that they feel threatened by japanese ecchi and hentai, so they have to pull this move to eliminate the competition.

I guess if you really want to support an artist or you really, really want to see an exclusive porn comic?

I never could bother with such a thing, even if I have do lots of respect for certain NSFW artists.

Fanbox has already put into action a ban on using Paypal to support NSFW art - however, this ban is an act of compromise, and not so much "bowing down".
You're still allowed to post NSFW on Fanbox, and other payment options are available, however, as of recent, Paypal is no longer allowing payments to NSFW creators.

I use subscribestar myself, and they actively cut ties with paypal a few years ago when they tried to force this change upon them. I respect the site a lot for it, and it means they're at much less risk of it happening.

Subscribestar is very based for that. Better to stick to your established goals than to sell out.

Also, some credit card company is forcing DLsite to remove "questionable" content. DLsite is trying to mitigate this by just changing the search terms, with mixed success.

I find it hilarious how I learned about this (and Gumroad as a whole) because on kemono party it explicitly says "Gumroad has gone full retard. While we watch it sink, check out the archive password sharing."
