This might be a hot take, but I've noticed that many people tend to repeat the same cycle, especially when it comes to Japanese/anime-themed games.

Every time a game gets censored, altered or filled with forced "modern sensibilities," fans rage online—but then still buy it anyway. This only enables companies to keep ruining beloved franchises.

So, why does this keep happening? Are people just addicted to these franchises? Is it FOMO? Brand loyalty because made by Japanese? Or lack pattern recognition or simply not care?

I'm of the opinion that most of these people don't actually care about the things they complain about. They just want attention. Case in point Stellar Blade was hailed as the great sexy anti woke game of the year but how often do you hear people talk about it? I don't even see much porn of it. It's just something they wanted to use to fake outrage and then they threw it aside when it fulfill it's purpose

Everyone else probably didn't notice these things or didn't care and just decided to buy the games anyway

If anyone can't get a rise out of "The opposition" they lose all interest.

Just like my circle, who keep buying VN remakes/remasters from Steam and then complaining about censorship because the old versions had more content—yet they still consume them to support the companies in hopes of future releases. smh

The same goes for my circle, who are gacha addicts and don’t care about character design changes implemented in updates.

So they don't have any actual stance or principles to begin with, despite all the rages. No wonder we got more censored and shitty products.
"Japanese stuff won't be affected or aren't really that affected" they said. But with the recent news, it seems thats not the case anymore.

Noticed this stuff because if the character is moe-like, there is a high chance it will be censored/toned down unlike slightly mature looking character design despite the same age.

I don't really buy any games these days either way, I'm broke, lmao.

How do you know it's the same people who are complaining that are buying them though? I'm one of the people who complained about the changes in the recent Dead Rising remake... I decided to not even download and play the demo, let alone buy the full game.

But I love how Aspyr's Tomb Raider remastered collections tried their best to stay true to the original games even in "remake mode" when its turned on, they even put back in the sexy Lara Croft posters in one area after it was pointed out that they were gone. I bought both collections twice, one of the few new game purchases I've made in the past few years.

I mean, three thoughts come to mind:

1. The stupid culture war idiots might just be hypocrites; aka loudly complaining that "you won't be getting my money" but sneaking around and buying it anyway.

2. We don't know who's who, but it's probably safe to assume that people who claim they won't buy the game due to censorship are a small minority compared to the average customer.

3. I really don't think minor censorship or alterations are a dealbreaker to most people. And my hot take is that I don't think it should be, unless the censorship is significant enough that it affects a great chunk of the game.

Hell, I'd even go as far as to say I can't recall any recent censorship being a major dealbreaker. Unless it's something absolutely, devastatingly game-breaking, censorship wouldn't really affect someone purchasing a game if it's high quality enough or if they're actually looking forward to it.

Stellar Blade was mentioned, and I remember the anti-woke grifters doing a complete 180 on the game and... all over some inches of skin not being shown? Lmao, how embarrassing. I bought the game mainly because of the sexy protagonist, but even still I still wasn't going to cry over some inches of skin being lost. It also didn't matter for long because those "censored" costumes ended up returning in a later update that added recolored costumes.

And I should also add that I do not support censorship at all, so don't get it twisted. But in the end, I can't really say I remember an instance where the censorship was so overwhelming, that buying it would indeed be a mistake. It sucks but I don't think there's much that can be done about it. Bad games tend to flop, so I think that's what matters more in the end.

Yh that's another reason why I don't look forward to remakes or remasters of vns I like fekler99 the censorship is just ridiculous and has honestly gotten out of control
