I thought this deserved it's own thread because it's very likely video games are going to drop all physical media support by 2030.

With how big a game's file probably is these days, wouldn't you run out of space really quickly if you have to download all of your games to the console?

And then what, delete them when you need more space?
Trust the company to let you download the game again later?

Or would it all be server based, where you don't even get to download the game?
And they can delete it anytime they want, even the "copy" you "own".
And if you can't access the server for some reason, well too bad fucko.

I don't trust modern video games.
I assume they're trying to scam me or get me addicted to gambling somehow.
And I definitely don't trust the companies when it comes to "owning" something digitally.
They'll delete it, or ruin it through non-optional "updates", or something.

The very least I would want is a physical disc, something they can't delete or alter.
But nope, I'm done with new games apparently. No going back now.
I may have purchased almost every GTA game, but GTA6 can go screw itself.

I keep pointing my shriveled witch finger guns at AI for this mess, you know when hardwares don't need some separate component to operate,and expect the CPU to do it all at once,that means lack of authority/sovereignity and humanity... I gave up on PS and in turn became a full-on Nintendo loyalist (I still need to get and violently secure a position in there)

I know "people" on (uuuuugh!! (¬_¬") "social media") weep like crazy as if they just saw apocalypse for the first time in days.....look, if you want to stop this, you have to become the very power that made this mess in the first place, be a politician/business regulator who knows how media worked, and have at least lobbied with these guys before, whether you like it or not.

anyhow, it's tough to be a gamer nowadays,but at the very least,be thankful that you are a part of it.

Physical copies will always exist as long as people are willing to. Playstation ending it's own disc production does not make the rest of the industry scrapping this idea.

the only way is to confront them irl, no more hiding behind a keyboard and pretend to have "power" like an online version of Peter Pan...they ain't got the effort to listen to online threats,

Honestly, I'm surprised that they still existed. In hindsight, optical disks were not a good medium.

Just put them in a plastic sleeve with a cutout/door for the laser. PSP did that already, right?
Mini-disc had that as well, so why not anything else?

There was some obscure movie format that held the disk in a plastic case, and then removed the disk from the case after you inserted it into the machine. It would then put the disk back in the case the next time you inserted it. I forget what it was called.

agreed, Sad Sap. Gaming has been compromised. And this whole talk of "supporting indie games" also falls flat on its faces. Gun n Ball gamers are not gonna go out and play something like Celeste, Final Vendetta or even Nex Machina. Tastes have been homogenized for newer audiences that they just don't see anything else besides gun.. and ball... and parry mechanic in action games.
