Twitter starts age verification in the usa for adult content
Posted on: 07/07/26 01:15AM

Just got the notice to scan my face or upload ID to view adult content on my burner phone on my burner account (I didnt). My VPN helped me bypass it but it's only a matter of time before they come after vpns too. God I hate government. Does anyone else have this issue and why does it seem like multiple governments are pushing this bs around the same time?

Completely banning vpns is not that easy. After all, there's a lot of people using vpns in Russia and China, despite the government best efforts to stop them.

Last year all western governments orchestrated this push for digital ID all at the same time. It's really weird and it proves that there's some really powerful interest group organizing to pass legislation all across the globe.

Now as for the reason why, I don't really know, but im sure its something really nefarious.
Maybe its because of AI bots making it harder for advertisers to recognize real users. Or maybe its to identify dissenters who criticize a certain place on the middle east.

Notice how fast Twitter jumped on that, they didn't hesitate for a second.
It's almost like they want scans of their users, on top of all the info they already have.
It's almost like user data is valuable or something.

Oh right, user data is valuable.
Silly me.

You know who steals valuable shit, including identity info?
Criminals. They love hacking things to steal user data.

You know who sucks total ass at securing sensitive user data?
Just about every company with a fuck ton of user data.

And now they want more.
When they've already proven that even the most "secure" companies can't be trusted with the tiniest amount.

And you know damn well that targeted ads are about to get much more personal.

I fucking hate the modern world.
We're living in the dark timeline.
The bad guys won.
The rich evil fucks in their dark towers have taken over the world.

God fuck no. I hope this isn't fucking true. I hope it's just a stroke of bad luck.

Damn this shit is infuriating. It already took me hell to like 2 whole years to start using twitter again. Not like this.

This all coincides with people losing their collective minds after the 2020 pandemic and the push to have AI in everything. Most people didn't care prior to then and any attempts to do this shit fell short because it was (and kinda still is) nonviable. But apparently a lot of people became control freaks the minute they had to stay indoors for a bit and use the internet for more than a few minutes.

You have parents that are neglectful at best or abusive at worse that hate that the world doesn't confine to their narrow views, and tech company heads that fried their brains or were scheming this for a long while. And both ultimately hate being blamed for their own mistakes, so this is in part to absolve them of their own issues. They're not wrong, or bad people they swear, they just need everyone to come around to their viewpoint by hook or by crook. And they've gotten in bed with governments and politicians that either share these views or want what they perceive as a PR win to campaign on next election season.

And with the latter marketing AI as a miracle tool that can do anything to the point of wanting to replace people with it, they see it as the solution to why those who wanted to do this before 2020 couldn't. Never mind shit like banning people over uploading grids as what happened on Discord a few days ago. It can collect your data and dictate what you're permitted to do. Very poorly at the moment, but that means data consolidated to "important people" and less people to pay as well.

And the problem is people buy this at face value because "won't someone think about the children?", once seen as the farce that it is, is bought hook, line and sinker since 2020, and you could get the average person to unwittingly agree to cut their hands off if you make them feel self righteous about it. And by the time they notice the actual bad shit that this is, whether they fell for it or not, it's too late to do anything as it's now law everywhere and there's only a small, outspoken group of people in barely meaningful positions that even bother to oppose this.

And of course, this does fuck all to help kids. Any place that could be a safe or comfort zone, online or in reality, has been eroded with no intent of actually remedying that. And they'll find ways to try and skirt this that puts them at risk more so than if they did nothing. The parents could have tried using parental controls and, being actual fucking parents like my mother was, but that requires not being lazy and accepting that children are not extensions of them. And the governments and corporations pushing this are helmed by people with verified histories of sexual abuse but we let that slide because... I don't know, they are on TV a lot and people want to have drinks with them or something. The outrage over generating realistic AI pics of actual people on Twitter was sure short lived, because it being done with AI owned by the lunatic that bought it in 2022 makes it okay over drawn, fictional images I guess. Then again, the overall vibes in the world seems to be about hurting others for your own faults, condoning terrible shit if it benefits you, and rewarding the ones that actually made your life worse.

In conclusion, this is something six years in the making being forced by bitter people that saw people expressing themselves in a way they didn't like and want to control every detail of our lives instead of minding their damn business. We had so much damn media in the 90s and 2000s telling us that mass surveillance and censorship are bad. Why did we decide to forget that and do what they told us not to do?

I think about this so much. We have decades of science fiction, cyberpunk and political fiction in all media, and when it was a thought experiment, we knew these things are bad, and now we are doing it anyway.

The answer is of course that there is no monolithic "us", and the people doing these things today are not the same kind of people who wrote (and read) those books years ago. Then the herd is just following the loudest pig in the front.

Figured AI. It will be hard to even use the net, thanks to AI and really it will boil down to people being locked out or being super easy to dox thanks to this. Digital ID will fail, but we can't tell how bad the damage is just yet

Simple. Bitter old people want to tell who really will oppose them. Once everyone knows who everyone is in real life, then trust erodes. They want to push you owning nothing, they want you forsake freedom. All for the sake of children who have grown to be monsters thanks to 2020
