whats with the ai-generated tag?
Posted on: 08/28/26 04:44PM

when i search for this tag, i get just half of a page worth of results (like 10) even though it shows 50k posts. i already have "see all content" checked off in the options. whats up with that?

That's because any AI generated "art" that gets posted here is deleted. This ain't Rule 34 or DeviantArt. This website has standards.

My theory: I think AI content is only "allowed" so that people will tag it as "AI-generated" instead of trying to hide it.

If they think the post can stay up if tagged properly, then they're more likely to tag it as AI-generated.
If they think it'll be instantly deleted, then they might try to hide the fact that it's AI-generated.

We had a thread about this about a month ago, it boiled down to while officially Gelbooru claims to allow AI generated art, effectively they don't. Mods delete 99.9% of all posts that get tagged AI-generated while AI generated art that doesn't get tagged that stays up. That shows that it's not really about "AI artifacts", but about the tag itself.

It looks like only Loretzuser is okay with AI generated art and he doesn't do any real modding, focusing on coding the site. All the other mods appear to hate it with a passion, so they delete all of it that's tagged appropriately, claiming to see "AI artifacts". Artifacts that no one else can see in many cases.

Short version: Gelbooru doesn't really allow AI generated art, they just pretend to.

I didn't last long finding a post here shared with aibooru. Most of them are ai-assisted, but I'd still have to go over the implications of ai-assisted stuff getting a pass in opposition to fully ai-generated artwork. Some of these artists seem to use the ai to paint over a 3D picture which is quite a smart use of reference image. In the end, however, the result is mostly an ai-generated drawing. There's a bit of agency for artifacts showing depending on configuration. You'd be making use of 3D ragdolls to condition the exact positions and angle the ai will generate on.

IMHO the point you brought up has two discussion angles, that pro-AI people usually cite against us " luddites":

One, since we are now in a quickly evolving stage, the tools are not that easy to classify. It is not just a binary between no-AI and full generation, but a full continuum of choices between. So, the measure of something being AI-assisted is not a true/false, but a number, a percentage. Just a one or two tags will not be enough for this in the future.
This does not mean that disallowing AI art is stupid; it just means that we have to refine the system as new things come up and refine the decision boundary.

Two, any system can be gamed by bad actors trying to pass machine-generated artifacts as something they are not (i.e. art), or just lazy actors not tagging their shit.
This is usually cited as "you won't be able to tell the difference thus it is impossible to enforce", but I don't agree with that. I view this as a question of honesty. The fact that you are able and willing to deceive me is not a fault of my morals; it means that you are a shit person.

I personally am quite happy that a place like Gelbooru exist, even if some counterexamples fall through the cracks, and the non-AI leaning stance is one of the main reasons I am still using this site, despite it being deader than a doornail. I think that the method you have described (AI over 3D) leans too much over to the automated side, should be classified as ai-generated, not assisted, tagged as such and removed. But that is only my opinion, I am not a mod or anything here, and I am known to have very-very heavy anti-AI bias when it comes to all art, so take that however you will.

None of this, of course, has anything to do this with thread, because op just asked a honest question, so sorry for wasting your time. It just wanted to come out. Have a nice day.

thanks for letting me know i guess, but there's no need to be delusional. no booru has standards, you can find dogshit everywhere. there are drawings that look like what i was drawing up when i was 5 that are being posted here.

also now not to just reply to you but to chime in on the topic in general, i really dont get this anti-AI derangement syndrome when it comes to drawn porn specifically. it is quite literally, the ONLY valid """creative""" use for AI. it's PORN

The staff have stated their policy on it.

The standards for what is allowed far exceeds any other standards imposed on art on this site in order to prevent people from spamming ridiculous amounts of gens (AKA slop). If the art piece is effectively indistinguishable from a normal-drawn picture it can stay.

i dont know if im reading your post correctly but are you saying that the 9 images that i see with the ai-generated tag, are in fact, the only images that have passed strict AI quality control in order to be left up on the booru?

Kinda?
But yes.

However, the 6 most recent images will likely be deleted now that you've brought attention to them.
Only the bottom 3 images have stayed up for any length of time.

Almost like it'd be weird if all of the AI-generated images were deleted, because the site technically "allows" that stuff, so a few images have to stay up...(See my above theory on the third post.)
