Questions about Third_Party_Edit uploading
Posted on: 09/21/26 04:20AM

So I've done a bunch of third party edits, usually nude filters or decensors (and a couple sex and sex toy edits, on top of nude filters), and I'm now realizing they could be posted on here (was previously just posting on E-Hentai and Sankaku).

So I've got to ask some clarifications on all of this.
1: Now, I know that just grabbing an image that's on here or Danbooru or Twitter or something and editing it is fine, from what I gather, as long as your quality is good enough. Some of my edits are that. But some are of paid content, either grabbed from E-H, Sankaku, or, usually, another 2 sites. Now from what I can gather, paid content isn't allowed here. But I do have to ask, under the circumstance I get access to a PSD from an artist that is paid content, but the artist has posted a jpg or png of said PSD publicly, and said PSD does not have any hidden content in it (e.g. removing clothes, censor bars, face differences, sex or sex toys, etc, done by toggling layers), would an extensive nude-filter edit of that be allowed?
As an example, I'll use this image: gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=8047241
Lets say I have access to the PSD for this image. The PSD is paid content. Toggling the layer the underwear is on reveals only a tan-colored mass that doesn't have shading, and the underwear coloring has to be separated from the shirt coloring. There aren't alternative options with the lines. Nude-filting the image requires creating everything "under" that largely from scratch; and it's just that the PSD is already separated. Is uploading edits of this nature OK? Does it depend on image resolution between the public and paid content?
2: I see facial edits are discouraged/not allowed, but what about when they're combined with a nude filter? Like, "hypothetically" using the image above, what if I too made some different eye and mouth variations to make her look more surprised? Should multiple versions of the edit be uploaded or just 1?
3: To go with the final question above, should multiple versions be allowed or just 1 if both the top and bottom are toggleable in the nude filter edit?
4: To once again go with the above question, if it's a "no," would the above answer change if I adjust the position of a limb in an edit for better exposure?
5: How would you even tag an edit where a limb has to be moved, or one where the subject is now having sex when they weren't in the original? Are those allowed?
6: If the original image of the edit hasn't already been uploaded, should it be first?
7: Decensoring images that are "convenient censoring" (like adjusting hair covering nipples) is fine, right? Should that be tagged as "decensored?"
8: I'm assuming the answer is "no," but I do have to check about edits of paid content that found their way onto E-Hentai, Sankaku, or Yandere?

Thanks very much for responding to whoever does. There's certainly some stuff that can be uploaded but I'm wanting to understand the breadth of what can be.

And a couple quick clarifications:
I do not use AI to do edits.
Technically it probably wouldn't be me posting the edits. I send them to a friend to manage the uploading. But he's a lot busier than me, so it's generally me doing the research and organization on what can go where.

1. Only the specific version(s) of the image that the artist made public are allowed to be posted, and that still applies to third-party edits. You would need to edit the JPEG or PNG image instead.

2. We have no rules against facial edits. What we disallow is changing skin color or just lazily copying and pasting a head from one drawing to another. Aside from changing skin color, our only rule for third-party edits is that it shouldn't be possible for us to identify it as a third-party edit without seeing the original. The edit should be seamless and in the original artist's style. If your edit fulfills that requirement and doesn't change the image such that it violates other site rules, it's allowed.

3. We don't care how many different versions of an image are uploaded as long as they are not duplicates.

5. You would just tag them as "third-party_edit". There is no tag for these specific types of edits. There is no tag for most specific types of edits.

6. We have no requirement that it be, but it's the considerate thing to do.

8. If you mean checking if someone else uploaded your paid content edits that you posted elsewhere, then no, you aren't responsible for other users' uploads, though it would certainly be helpful to us if you were to do so. If you mean checking your edits you've previously uploaded elsewhere for paid content before you upload them here, then yes, you are responsible for your own uploads and need to make sure that they don't violate our rules.

So couple things.

1: In this instance I am specifically talking about a file where there is only 1 specific version, where the exported PNG and the PSD are identical except that the PSD is still in layers, with no additional variants hidden within the PSD. I am just clarifying this is what you’re talking about, since it would be virtually indistinguishable once exported to an edit of the original PNG.

Or could I instead cheat the system by copying the edits on the PSD on top of the public PNG instead, so it’s practically the original image and only the parts I touched?

8: I mean in this case I downloaded a PNG image off of one of those sites that is paid content to edit. It does seem like the answer is “no” though, but I do feel like it’s harder for a user to distinguish if something uploaded to those sites is paid content or not than others so I was just checking.

It doesn't matter if it's indistinguishable. Nothing from the paid PSD can be uploaded to Gelbooru, even if the version the artist uploaded for the public appears to be a pixel-perfect match. Unless and until the artist releases that PSD to the public for free, anything contained within it should be treated as fruit of the poisoned tree, and anything made from that fruit is poisoned too.

As long as the final result doesn't contain any resources that came from the paid PSD, sure.

Here's a clear answer, then: you are required to source your uploads. This is true even for third-party edits, where the source should usually be the source of the original image that was edited. The source you provide must be the specific place you got the image you're actually uploading from, not a link to an alternative source that has a version available for free. If the source you provide cannot be accessed by the public for free or doesn't provide the exact file you're considering using for free, you should not upload that file or anything derived from it.

1: Ok, cool. That does effectively prohibit me from uploading any edits I’ve done of Ebifurya and may cause me to rethink how I do a couple of future edits. If I do try to fix my Ebifurya edits so that no content from the PSD is in them, I do have to ask for 1 more clarification on something. I use ProCreate for my edits, and one of the best tools for editing is the smudge tool, which can let me drag colors present in one part of the image, or layer, down into another area. Is doing this to a layer in the PSD and then erasing all parts of the layer that weren’t modified this way count as “containing resources from the PSD? Cause at that point the brush strokes are mine.

8: Ok I guess that clears things up. So preferably source from Pixiv or Twitter or the likes then instead on Danbooru or E-H or Sankaku got it. Unless the image was deleted off of the primary source I presume.

I'm gonna err on the side of caution and say that wouldn't be allowed, unless one of the other administrators says otherwise.
