Tiger or tapir?

Why do Shun and Kokona from Blue Archive have the “tiger_ears” tag on most artworks, but no artwork has the “tapir_ears” tag? This question is more discussion‑oriented.

Tapirs don't have have a lot of ear fluff she has, do they? It does look very similar to shape and color, but from what I read Shun and Kokona are based on mythical creatures from "Classic of Mountains and Seas".

I've also heard about this version. But I'm not sure, but in Classic of Mountains and Seas, it seems there were tapirs too, and Kokona doesn't have ear fluff, just pink inside.

because they don't have tapir ears? or at least kokona doesn't as i just checked myself.
gelbooru tags by what's shown in the image, not by character lore or anything. so if they have bunny ears thats what you tag even if canonically they're deerfolk or something.

the fluff debate aside tapir ears are longer and thinner, tiger ears are closer to house cat ears with a wider base and all that.

I get that, but it’s still confusing. Kokone’s ears don’t look like a tapir’s in shape, and the only argument from people who say she’s a tapir is that the insides of her ears are pink, like baby tapirs’.

With Shun it’s more complicated. Yes, on some artworks (official ones, even) her ears look more like a tiger’s. But on most artworks she has very pronounced tapir-like features (color, elongated shape, and so on), like here:

I also checked another character who’s confirmed to be a tapir, and they match in a lot of ways. Its tapir from Kemono Friends

theres no official confirmation for any characters afaik, most of the art is actually commissioned or something rather than being made by official staff so the artists' word can't be taken as cannon.
if a particular image of shun looks more tigery tag it tiger ears, if it looks like tapir ears tag it tapir.

also compare it to official art at least, in official art the mountain tapir friend has tapir ears but i'm not sure what to call what's in the image you linked.
