i really like the way this artist draws faces/expressions.
even though its only like 2 lines and a small highlight that's a really amazing smile.

i have a vague idea as to why they work so well:
unlike most anime style drawings' facial features, these have a lot of subtle variation like the curves under her eyes that imply her cheeks being raised by facial muscles. a lot of anime use what i refer to as stickers; you've got a good amount of variation sure but eyes/mouth are all just presets copy/pasted on rather than being drawn as part of the face. not that it's a bad just optimized for a specific medium.
