Although I warmed up to the design, they could have just made a black heroic spirit rather than come up with a reason how Shirou somehow got darker than me and my ancestors. It really looks like, they saw an 80's black movie and said "I want Archer to look like that". This depiction of "EMIYA alter" was a shock to many.
