Samus' boobs were never realistic. Every sprite or official model of her outside her power suit from day 1 makes this abundantly clear that she always had a good pair of tits. I don't know where people get the idea that Samus is supposed to be flatter, the official games themselves debunk this notion. Metroid Prime 3 is the only exception where she had the smallest tits to date (and they look really weird).
