Yeah. There's a story reason for why, but it's gonna be disappointing for people who wanted a direct fight and not a proxy war through a city controlled by him.

They could have at least shown it in a flashback testing it's weapons. As it is, there isn't a decent shot of it's body in the films, just the head, toys and concept art show the while thing.
The idea of a proxy war is cool but people are understandably upset plan B wasn't a direct fight. With it being mostly damaged beyond some basic functions, there was never gonna be a plan B.

They could have at least shown it in a flashback testing it's weapons. As it is, there isn't a decent shot of it's body in the films, just the head, toys and concept art show the while thing.

The ads and merchandising was obnoxious which promised that Mechagodzilla would fight against Godzilla personally rather than what we got. To be honest, while I did actually enjoyed the proxy battle at the mechanized city, I can understand why people got pissed that they got bait and switched in the end.
