Shantae for Smash should definitely be a thing. And it's surprisingly likely..

People write her off on account of "Shovel Knight's more popular and all he got was being an assist trophy" when.. that's.. factually incorrect. Sure, he's more popular in the WEST, but Shantae is more well known around the world, especially in japan. Pair that with her having a deep set history with Nintendo, and Shantae's chances have always been higher than the knight of shovelry--no offense to shovel knight fans, he still should have been a fighter I feel. But if there's going to be only one "indie" rep as a playable fighter, shantae technically has a better shot and shovel as an assist trophy cleared a path for her with indie representation at all.

Now that it's been announced there will be more fighters added after the initial five in the Fighter's Pass, I'm more optimistic that it'll happen now. #ShantaeForSmashDLC may become a reality.
