| Typically, If it's not at least one of the following: - Drawn by a Japanese* person - Is focusing mostly** on a Japanese copyright - Is drawn in a distinctly*** Japanese way It gets the boot * - Racially Japanese who has been brought up in Japanese culture. The King Of The Hill fan art from a White man living in Japan won't cut it. The son of two Japanese parents, who grew up in America without ever living in Japan may not cut it. No Nihongo = No go. ** - Art of Japanese IPs by gaijin is allowed provided the Japanese IPs aren't secondary to Non-Japanese ones. For instance, a collage of the artist's favorite animation works in which one or two is an anime may not cut it. Vtuber fanart in which the model is wearing a Pikachu pin may not cut it. A video of a dude jerking off with a Japanese Tenga brand onahole will not cut it. *** - Large expressive eyes alone won't cut it. Avatar: The Last Air Bender and Totally Spies don't cut it. There's too much overlap between cartoons and anime for a fine line to be drawn so only extreme cases of 'style parody' make the cut. |
