Now Viewing: policenautsTag type: Copyright A buddy cop science fiction visual novel/adventure game developed by Konami and created by Kojima Hideo. It was originally released in 1994. Character designs are by Kinoshita_Tomiharu. Music is composed by Iwase Tappi, Furukawa Motoaki, and Ikariko Masahiro. Humanity in the game's universe has made advances in space exploration and have even built a space colony called Beyond Coast by the year 2013. Jonathan Ingram is a member of a group called Policenauts, men who are trained to be both police officers and astronauts. While roaming around outside Beyond Coast in his spacesuit, a freak accident occurs and Jonathan is sent drifting into space. Jonathan survives thanks to his space suit putting him into a state of cold sleep and he is discovered and revived. Unfortunately for him, 25 years have passed since then and his wife Lorraine has married Hojo Kenzo in the interim and moved to Beyond. She has also given birth to a daughter named Hojo Karen who is only a few years younger than Jonathan. His friends have also moved on. Jonathan is physically still a young man and he has essentially been left behind. Jonathan has also developed a fear of space and spends his time working as a private eye on Earth. While he is not entirely happy with his current life, he feels no desire to go to Beyond Coast. That changes when an older Lorraine suddenly pays a visit to Jonathan, the first time they've seen each other in 28 years, and gives him a case. She wants him to find her husband Kenzo who has disappeared. Jonathan is hesitant to take the job as it would require him to go to space, but his reunion with his ex-wife is cut short when a hit man kills Lorraine. In her dying breaths, Lorraine pleads for Jonathan to help her family and Karen. Jonathan swallows his fears and heads to Beyond Coast to solve the mystery of Kenzo's disappearance and Lorraine's murder. The game is a spiritual successor to Snatcher and features many of Kojima's trademarks like breaking the fourth wall and the inclusion of numerous easter eggs. Gameplay is similar to Snatcher and consists of investigation and shooting segments. Like said game, Policenauts' protagonist Jonathan is a major womanizer and the player can make him grope the breasts of the game's various attractive women as well as other perverted things. It is heavily inspired by the Lethal Weapon series and the characters Jonathan Ingram and Ed Brown strongly resemble Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh of said series. Kojima's next game Metal Gear Solid features quite a few references to this game. The character Meryl Silverburgh became one of the main characters of that game. Tanaka Hideyuki, who plays Jonathan Ingram, plays Hal Emmerich in Metal Gear Solid series and when Hal talks to Snake about how much he likes anime, clips from the anime cutscenes of this game are used. The theme song of the game is also briefly played when the Konami logo appears and the song has reappeared in Metal Gear Solid 4. However, Metal Gear and Policenauts are not in the same continuity and while Meryl's physical appearance is mostly the same and she is voiced by the same voice actress, her personality and backstory are completely different. The Policenauts: Pilot Disk release also included concept art for the then upcoming game Metal Gear Solid.
