The game's full title is Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The game was released on February 17, 2011, a decade after the previous game in the series. The game was directed and produced by Niitsuma Ryota. The soundtrack was composed by Fukusawa Hideyuki. The game is written by Frank Tieri. This time, the artwork was handled by Mori_Toshiaki who had previously worked on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Like its predecessors, the game is a fast-paced 2D tag team fighting game. This game utilizes 3D graphics as opposed to sprites like previous entries. The game adds a new mechanic called X Factor, which gives characters a boost in speed and power and gradually regenerates their health for a short period of time. The game is also console exclusive, and has been released for the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. As a massive crossover game, the the game is filled with numerous references to both Marvel and Capcom franchises. Marvel even described the game as "all about fanservice," using the fan in-joke definition of the term. Besides the large roster of playable characters, many Marvel and Capcom characters make cameos in the game's character endings. The game also includes quite a few references to memes pertaining to the Marvel vs. Capcom games. The developers hoped to attract both veteran Marvel vs. Capcom fans and fans of the playable characters who may be familiar with the characters themselves but unfamiliar with the fighting game genre. Like its predecessors, the game is quite popular in tourney fighting game scene and both the original release and Ultimate have been featured at EVO tournaments. This game is also notably the first Marvel vs. Capcom game that famous fighting game player Umehara_Daigo decided to participate in a tournament for, though he did not make it into the top 32 bracket. It is also the inspiration for the popular online character guide/sketch comedy web series, Assist Me, created by Maximilian Christensen.
