Now Viewing: yang_xiao_longTag type: Character One of the main heroines of RWBY. She is a blonde and busty teen girl who wears a brown and yellow outfit, an orange scarf, and a skirt. She wears biker shorts underneath her skirt. Her outfit is the most revealing out of the female characters and she is the most willing to use her good looks to her advantage. She is a cheerful and energetic girl with a playful attitude, believing that being able to relax is very important. She has a thrill-seeking personality and became a huntress for the opportunity to go on all sorts of exciting adventures. Yang is fond of making puns, a trait that her voice actress Barbara Dunkelman is famous for in real life. However, she can be serious when it's necessary. Although she is generally cheerful and easy-going, she is very protective of her long blonde hair and gets upset if it is harmed. Her eyes suddenly turn red whenever she is angry. She also acts like an older sister figure to her team members, helping them out with their issues and offering advice. Her fighting style is the closest to hand to hand combat out of the main characters. She uses special gun gauntlets on her hand which amplify the strength of her punches and also shoot fireballs as well as causing explosions. She can essentially shoot and punch at the same time. Even by the standards of the series, she can withstand a lot of damage and becomes more dangerous the more damage she takes. She has a fire motif in her design with the nature of her attacks. Her blonde hair becoming fire-like and her eyes turning red, is a sign that Yang is becoming even stronger. She is the older half-sister of Ruby Rose and is protective of and very affectionate towards her. The two of them have the same father but different mothers but they are united in the fact that they both lost their mothers. However, for much of her childhood Yang believed Ruby's mother Summer Rose was her mother too. It was only after Summer's disappearance that Yang found out that Summer was her step-mother and that her biological mother disappeared years ago. Although Yang is protective of Ruby, she also wants Ruby to be able to handle things herself and not depend too much on Yang. Yang insists that Ruby should make friends with others at Beacon Academy instead of spending all her time with Yang. One of Yang's greatest desires is to find out what became of her mother. Like Ruby, Yang initially does not get along with Weiss. Soon after she encounters Neo, Yang comes to see her a rival and wants to take her down herself. Neo is also far more skilled than Yang, when Yang fights her, she becomes more angry and aggravated than normal, and Neo becomes the first opponent that Yang loses to. She has two major vocal songs. The last part of "I Burn," and the extended remix on the soundtrack, reflects her feisty attitude while the second song "Gold" is about her love for her sister Ruby. Her trailer is unique amongst the other trailers in that it is more humorous in tone and closer to the tone of the main series in contrast to the other trailers which had no comic relief. There are three versions of I Burn, the version used in the Yellow Trailer, the extended version of the final verse of the original song, and a rock/rap version of the song. The lyrics to the last version are notably the only instance of profanity in the soundtrack and the RWBY series. She is based off of Goldilocks. She is voiced by Barbara Dunkelman who has described Yang as being much like herself so she doesn't spend too much time getting into character though she does practice calling out Ruby's name. Much like fellow RWBY voice actor and Rooster Teeth employee Michael Jones, Dunkelman went on to do anime dubbing, providing the English voice of Cosmos from Fairy Tail. Outside of RWBY, she has also appeared in the 29th episode of the 2nd season of the online crossover fighting series, Death Battle, where she is pitted against another character Monty Oum has animated before, Tifa Lockhart. Dunkelman reprises her role for this appearance, making this the first time a character in the series has had the original voice actor reprise their role. Yang also has the honor of being the first character to originate from an online work to appear in the series.
