Now Viewing: aikatsu!Tag type: Copyright Tag refers to the idol singer franchise created by Bandai. The name is a portmanteau of Aidoru Katsudou but the series is generally referred to as Aikatsu! It began as an arcade collectible card game that debuted on October 2012 and adapted into an anime TV series that premiered the same month on October 8, 2012 and is still ongoing. The series has also been adapted into rhythm video games. The series is set in the all female idol training school called Starlight Academy. The series places a particularly strong emphasis on fashion. The idol singers in this series are different from others in their use of the eponymous Aikatsu cards. These cards summon digital outfits and accessories, which the idols then put on, a process that is reminiscent of a magical girl transformation. The idols' success depends on how well the idols/players make use of these cards and finding the right combinations is key to doing well at the game. The games place the players in the role of a new student/aspiring idol who must use the Aikatsu cards skillfully in order to become a great idol. The anime TV series sets Hoshimiya Ichigo as its protagonist. Ichigo is a normal girl who is very close to her mother, Ringo. Outside of school and hanging out with friends, she spends the majority of her free time helping her mother with the bentou shop. All Ichigo claims to want out of life is to be able to take over the ben-to shop and keep it running even though Ringo encourages her to pursue her own dreams. Ichigo's main target in life begins to shift once she sees her brother Raichi fawning over photos of star idol Kanzaki Mizuki. Raichi and Ichigo's idol fangirl friend Kiriya Aoi introduce Ichigo to the world of idols as they convince Ichigo to attend a concert featuring Mizuki. Mizuki's performance impresses Ichigo so much that she becomes internally conflicted over whether she wants to be an idol or inherit Ringo's shop. Aoi, Raichi, and Ringo's encouragement help her realize that she wants to become a top idol just like Mizuki. Aoi and Ichigo decide to attend the idol-training school Starlight Academy and work to become great idols. The anime has a different voice actress for the idols' speaking voice and singing voice. The idol performance scenes are animated in CG in contrast to the rest of the series.
