Now Viewing: kariginuTag type: General 狩衣 Kariginu (狩衣, "hunting robe") is a type of traditional Japanese garment open at the sides, with huge wide_sleeves only attached to the body at the upper back and with a standing, round neck. The gap between the sleeves and the body of the kariginu allows for freedom of movement, necessary when hunting. Originally meant to be worn outdoors, its uses changed throughout history from the Heian period onwards. For instance, it was worn outdoors by the aristocrats during the Heian period and indoors as formal wear by warriors of the upper echelons during the Kamakura period.
