Now Viewing: ikari_shinjiTag type: Character Ikari Shinji (碇 シンジ) is the protagonist of the Neon_Genesis_Evangelion franchise (manga, anime, video games, feature films) created by Gainax. He is a 14/15-year-old boy who lost his mother, Ikari_Yui, when he was still an infant. His father, Ikari_Gendou, does not seem to care for him. Shinji has been raised by a tutor while his father was devoted to his work and kept little contact with him. "He was first introduced as the protagonist from the television anime series from 1995. Shinji Ikari is a young boy who is requested by his distant father, Ikari Gendou, to pilot a mecha known as the Evangelion Unit 01 (Eva_01) to protect the city of Tokyo-3 from creatures known as Angels (Angel_(Evangelion)) that threaten to destroy mankind. While Shinji is forced to pilot Unit 01, during his time in Tokyo-3 he socializes with comrades and gains friends. Shinji's portrayal differs depending on the media in which he is shown such as in the official manga adaptation where he is written from the author Sadamoto_Yoshiyuki's point of view as well as other spinoff series." He is voiced by Ogata_Megumi His adult self, who only appears in Evangelion:_3.0+1.0_thrice_upon_a_time, is voiced by famed live action actor/seiyuu Kamiki Ryunosuke.
