Now Viewing: the_legend_of_zelda:_twilight_princessTag type: Copyright A 2006 Zelda action adventure game released for both the Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. The Wii version reverses the perspective of the Gamecube version. Unlike Wind Waker, the game adopts a darker and grittier visual style. Series mainstays Link and Zelda also look comparatively older than their counterparts in other games. The Twilight Princess designs of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf also appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Twilight Princess Link is also reused for the fourth Smash Bros. game. Minor antagonist King Bulbin also has a cameo in Brawl in the Bridge of Eldin stage. The game is directed by Aonuma Eiji and produced by Miyamoto Shigeru. The story was written by Kyogoku Aya, Ikkaku Takayuki, Takano Mitsuhiro, and Aonuma. The soundtrack was composed by Minegishi Toru and Ohta Asuka. The artwork was handled by Nakano_Yusuke and Takizawa_Satoru. The game is set a centuries after Ocarina of Time, but in an alternate timeline from Wind Waker. Link is a teenage farm boy living in the peaceful village of Ordon on the outskirts of Hyrule, but suddenly a group of monsters kidnap the children of the village. Link tries to save them, but he is knocked out and when he wakes up, the village and Hyrule in general have been covered in Twilight. Link explores the now dark Hyrule and upon approaching a strange pitch black wall, a hand reaches out and pulls him inside. He is saved by a Triforce symbol on Link's hand which makes the monster drop Link, but Link find himself painfully transforming into a werewolf. He wakes up in the prison cells of Hyrule Castle where he meets a shady and mischievous imp named Midna. She is a member of the Twili race who reside in the Twilight Realm. She assists Link in breaking out of the dungeon, but she seems to have her own agenda. Link soon learns that the Hyrule monarchy has been overthrown by Zant, who proclaims himself to be the King of the Twilight Realm and intends to cover Hyrule in Twilight and control both realms. Princess Zelda, who was set to become the Queen, is now imprisoned in her own castle. The only way for Link to stop Hyrule from falling into Zant's grasp is to retrieve Tears of Light in order to restore the Light Spirit of Hyrule who can then banish the Twilight and to recover the Fused Shadows. Link teams up with Midna to fulfill this quest. The game adopts a similar style as Ocarina of Time with Midna operating as the fairy companion. Unlike other fairy companions, Midna is a very plot pivotal character and gets more screen time and dialogue. The overworld is once again land based and riding the horse Epona is the fastest way across the land. Link also transforms into a wolf when venturing into the Twilight Realm and accordingly, his move set changes while in this form and he gains a stronger sense of smell and the ability to talk to animals. Later, he can switch back and forth between forms. As revealed in Hyrule Historia, the game has a direct connection with Ocarina of Time with the presence of an important character from that game. Link's Wolf form from this game can also be used as a summon in the 2017 Zelda game Breath of the Wild. Midna became a playable character in the Zelda crossover Zelda Musou.
