Now Viewing: darth_vaderTag type: Character A tall masked dark-helmeted, deep-voiced armored cyborg who is one of the main antagonists of the original Star_Wars trilogy. He is the top enforcer of the Galactic Empire and is feared by both his allies, who he will swiftly dispose of if they don't perform to his standards, and the Rebel Alliance. Although he acts as a commander of the Empire's military forces, he often goes into battle himself and proves to be the Alliance's most dangerous enemy whenever he does so, thanks to his keen knowledge of military tactics, combat, and piloting prowess. He was a student of Obi Wan Kenobi, but turned to the Dark Side, participating in purging many Jedi. Thanks to this, he is one of the last remaining beings with Jedi-like powers such as a mastery of lightsaber combat and the Force. Virtually no one else stands a chance against him in battle and many people from younger generations have never even seen someone with his abilities and thus, have no way to counter them. Obi Wan Kenobi, his former master, believes that only Luke Skywalker has any chance of defeating him. Vader, for his part, notices Luke's potential with the Force and has other plans in store for him. As Luke finds out the hard way, Vader is, in fact, Luke's thought to be deceased father, Anakin Skywalker. After discovering that he has a long lost son who has Force potential, Vader plans to convert him to the Dark Side and have him rule over the Galaxy together. This twist, revealed in Empire Strikes Back, is one of the most iconic ones in film and has been quoted, homaged, and parodied numerous times since then. George Lucas made sure it was a closely guarded secret, so secret that the only people who knew about it during filming was actors Mark Hamill and James Earl Jones. The prequel trilogy was created to explain how Anakin became Darth. It is also a popular subject for reaction videos where parents record their young children, watching Star Wars for the first time, react to it. He is one of the most popular and iconic characters in the franchise, becoming the series mascot, and his visage is prominently features on posters and merchandise and a major influence on numerous other antagonists in international pop culture. He popularized a specific kind of antagonist: powerful, masked, and physically imposing beings who are eventually revealed to have a personal connection to the hero. The American Film Institute listed him as 3rd in their greatest movie villain list. He is also a playable fighter in Soul calibur IV. He is voiced by James Earl Jones, but David Prowse donned the suit on set until Rogue One where he was played by Spencer Wilding. In Star Wars Rebels, he is voiced by Jones again.His unmasked appearance is played by Sebastian Shaw in live action and Matt Lanter in Rebels. In the video games Commander and Battlefront 2015, he is voiced by Matt Sloan, who was previously known for playing a Darth Vader parody in the comedic online series Chad Vader.
