Unlike regular body armor, this includes some form of powered exoskeleton or power_suit to act as mechanical muscle, reducing the user's amount of work to do just about anything. A common form of armor in science_fiction, especially in space environments - a popular example is Samus_Aran. One of the first appearances of power armor in science fiction was in the novel Starship_Troopers (1959).
