If there are any artifacts from the AI generation process, do not upload it. Frequent AI generation artifacts Most AI generation artifacts arise from the fact that the AI doesn't actually know or understand what it's drawing or what each visual element's purpose is; it's just following patterns it's seen in similar images. This frequently results in visual elements that are "melted", fused into other elements, or arranged in a nonsensical way. If the image has any of these types of artifacts, do not upload it. Note that this is not intended as a comprehensive list, but rather as a quick checklist to run each AI-generated image through before deciding whether to upload it or not. There may be other types of artifacts in the image in your image not specifically mentioned here. If any artifacts from the AI generation process can be identified, whether mentioned here or not, the image is not indistinguishable from a human-drawn image and will be removed. Hands: Since hands are one of the most expressive parts of the human anatomy, they appear in all kinds of different positions and gestures. Since the AI doesn't understand what hands are or what they do, it often produces hands which are jumbled, have extra fingers, or have other problems. This can also happen for feet. Eyes: Eyes are not only highly expressive parts of the human anatomy, but most artists have their own unique way of drawing them. Since the AI doesn't know what the different parts of the eye (pupil, iris, sclera) are or do, the multitude of wildly different patterns often result in eyes that look very off, and usually do not match each other. Additionally, since the AI doesn't know what tears or eyelashes are, but has seen many patterns that include them, it often includes them as part of the eye, often in ways that are inappropriate or which combine with other parts of the eye anatomy (e.g. often the sclera will appear to drip out of the eye). Hair: Hair often melts into other visual elements like clothes, arms, or the background. It will also often be drawn with sections disconnected from the rest of the image. Accessories: AI generally has a very hard time drawing accessories. It will often draw them melted, misshapen, and asymmetric. Clothes: The AI can usually handle simple clothing like plain T-shirts and skirts fairly well, but if there are any complications in the clothing, it will often make mistakes. Frequent examples are buttons that are strangely placed or placed on both sides of the garment, zippers which are noticeably melted, only exist on one side of the closure, or are longer on one side than the other, seams which are placed in unusual locations, and melting where parts of garments come together (e.g. where bra straps attach to the cups). Additionally, articles of clothing will often melt into each other, elements of the background, or the character's hair or body. Repeating patterns: AI has a very hard time with repeating patterns and textures. Patterned clothing will usually come out with the pattern garbled, lace will usually appear nonsensical, chain will melt together more like a rope, and textures will not continue. Additionally, anything that you would normally expect to be the same in different parts of the image, such as matching accessories, clothing complications, the design of shoes, etc often will not be. Fluids: To be blunt, most of the fluids that most anime artwork AI's have been trained on are semen. When an AI tries to draw fluids, they usually come out goopy and thick. Backgrounds: The AI is generally pretty good at the technical aspects of drawing backgrounds, but it will often choose background layouts that make no sense, have elements that do not connect or continue when they should if interrupted by other elements, and make architectural choices that seem really bizarre when you actually look at them. Additionally, it often makes perspective errors; for example, it might make errors similar to those in Penrose Stairs. Keep in mind that the background is part of the image, so an AI artifact being in the background rather than the foreground will not give it a pass on being allowed. Other considerations AI-generated artwork will often have other types of artifacts unrelated to the AI generation process. For example, most AI-generated artwork is generated at a lower resolution and then upscaled. AI upscaling often results in blurring of parts not central to the image, separation of color channels that appears similar to a stereogram, and issues with the red channel in particular. Since some artists use this same process for hand-drawn artwork, this isn't considered to be an artifact specific to AI generation and usually won't be factored into whether or not the artwork is distinguishable from human-drawn artwork. If the AI upscaling artifacts are particularly egregious or if a version without upscaling has been released, the image may be deleted for the AI upscaling itself. Note that AI upscaling applied by anyone other than the person who originally drew or generated the image is not allowed on Gelbooru, regardless of whether the artwork is AI-generated or human-drawn. Non-AI upscaling invariably results in blocky, dithered appearance, and is not allowed on Gelbooru whether the artwork is AI-generated or hand-drawn.
