Now Viewing: dragon_ball_daimaTag type: Copyright ドラゴンボールDAIMA Tag refers to this installment of the Dragon_Ball franchise. It is direct sequel to Dragonball_Z following the Majin Buu arc, but is set before Dragon_Ball_Super and the epilogue of the original Dragon Ball manga, so it assumes that the viewers have either finished the manga or the DBZ anime. It was directed by Yashima Yoshitaka and Komaki Aya. Out of all the DB anime tv shows, this one had the most direct involvement from series creator Toriyama_Akira. When the studio approached Toriyama to discuss ideas for this project, Toriyama ended up coming up with the entire story for the series as well as the designs for its new characters. This was Toriyama's last main project before his passing from subdural hematoma. The anime was written by Kakihara Yuuko and scored by Yamashita Kousuke. It is the shortest anime TV series of the Dragon Ball franchise, running for only twenty episodes, from October 11, 2024 to February 28, 2025. It is set shortly after the end of Majin Buu arc. Goku and co. have just save Earth from the brink of annihilation by Majin Buu. The events of said arc have also had ripple effects in the Demon World, which now has a power vacuum thanks to the death of the former king Dabra. This allows the arrogant tyrant in the making Gomah to declare himself the new king of the Demon World. However, Gomah still doesn't feel secure in his victory because after seeing Goku and co's exploits in the Buu arc, he fears that they may pose a threat to his rule. To solidify his control over the Demon realm, he decides to get Earth's dragon balls and wish for Goku and his friends to be reverted to less powerful children. He also takes Dende, now reduced to being a baby, as a hostage. As Goku and his friends struggle to get used to their new bodies and figure out what to do next, they are approached by another Demon realm resident, Glorio, who wants Goku, the man who defeated Majin Buu, to come with him to the Demon realm. Goku and friends team up with Glorio to head to the Demon realm to restore their adult bodies, rescue Dende, and overthrow the new demon king Gomah. The series, which was released on the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball franchise, harkens back to the tone of the earliest Dragon Ball arcs. Although it's still an action series, it is a more whimsical adventure instead of the ever-escalating high stakes battle manga that the later arcs of Dragon Ball and previous DB anime Dragon Ball Super became. Its premise and tone is similar to the original anime sequel to Dragonball Z, Dragon Ball GT even though the events of that series had been rendered as a different continuity by later follow ups to Dragon Ball Z with producer Iyoku Akio stating that he hoped that the adults who grew up with DBGT could enjoy this series with their children. Due to the anime's premise of the main cast being reverted to children, most of the series' mainstays received new voice actors to play the characters' younger forms with the standard voice actors, except Furuya Tooru who was replaced by Suzuki Ryouta as Yamcha because of the former's scandal in 2024, continuing to play their adult forms. The series was adapted into a video game for the first time as a DLC for Dragon Ball Z Kakarot in 2025. All of the new voice actors reprise their roles as the new characters.
