Entries in the series were developed by Cavia, PlatinumGames, Toylogic, and Applibot. The characters were designed by yoshida_akihiko, and music by Keiichi Okabe and his studio MONACA. Nier is a spin-off series the drag-on_dragoon (Drakengard) trilogy. Originally released in 2010 in Japan as NieR Replicant for the Playstation 3 (including nier_(brother) as the main character), NieR Gestalt for the Xbox 360 (including nier_(father) as the main character), and simply titled "Nier" worldwide. A sequel, nier_automata, was released in 2017 for the Playstation 4 and Windows, with an Xbox One port in the following year, and a Nintendo Switch port in 2022. An updated version of NieR Replicant was released as NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... in 2021 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. A gacha_(game_mechanic) sequel, nier_reincarnation, was released in 2021 for iOS and Android. NieR Reincarnation's servers later shut down in 2024 with no plans for an offline version.
