She dresses formally, wearing a white long sleeve shirt with a tie and black pants, and sometimes pairs this outfit with a black long coat. She is one of the major characters of Chainsaw_Man. She has yellow eyes with multiple red rings in them. She is the perpetually calm and enigmatic head of Division 4 of the demon hunting Public Security Bureau and is the direct superior of the main characters. She has an unflappable demeanor with no visible displays of intense emotion. The most common emotion she visibly shows is a small mysterious smile. She speaks in a soft, gentle voice which she virtually never raises. In spite of this, she is able to command authority over her subordinates who obey her for a variety of reasons. In Denji's case, Denji is smitten with her, both for her beauty and for her kindness in having him join Public Security, which allowed him to cut off his awful former life being exploited by the Yakuza. Although Denji has a wandering eye when it comes to beautiful girls, he remains loyal to Makima, often declaring that he's saving himself for her. She speaks politely and professionally with others, but seems to let her guard down a little more around Denji. Makima is aware of Denji's feelings for her and she often plays into them to convince him to follow her orders. In the case of Power, she follows Makima's orders out of fear. Makima is a mysterious person with the most her fellow workers know about her is that she's an important figure to the Japanese government. None of her co-workers even know about the exact nature of her powers even though they can tell from the results that they are highly effective. She is actually the Control Devil, one of the big primal fears of humanity, and the true main antagonist of Chainsaw Man Part 1. Although she has often acted like she likes Denji, his feelings for her are completely unrequited. Every moment of affection she seemed to show towards him was actually directed towards Pochita/Chainsaw Man and she has directly engineered most of Denji's suffering. She is a master manipulator, both in her words and with her supernatural powers. Her control over animals allows her to use them to spy on others making her seem omniscient to those unaware of her abilities. Makima's body can be harmed but she is seemingly impossible to kill because she has a contract where every time she's 'killed,' a random Japanese civilian dies in her place while she resurrects almost immediately. On top of her supernatural powers, she is a skilled and strong physical fighter. In her Control Devil form, she is adorned with a gruesome angel halo made of guts. Makima was one of the earliest characters Fujimoto Tatsuki created, having the basic idea for her as far back as when he was in junior high. She was partially inspired by the character Benten from Uchouten Kaizoku. One of the reasons Fujimoto named her Makima was to signify that she's something of a maternal figure to Denji, who never knew his mother, as the only difference between her name and the word Mama is the presence of the ki separating the two Mas. Makima is one of the most popular and iconic characters from the series and in popularity polls is second only to Power. She is voiced by Kusunoki_Tomori, a role very different from her past characters, but one she was happy to get, having even prayed to a framed picture of her to get the role. In the stage play, she is played by famed seiyuu/stage actress Hirano_Aya, also in a role different from most of her past characters.
