Development began as early as 2017 and being officially released on November 4, 2022 for Android_(os) and iOS_(os), and on February 15, 2023 for the PC port. Players are put into the shoes of a commander_(nikke) of advanced androids called "Nikkes" and are tasked with fighting back against Rapture_(nikke)s, mysterious robotic organisms that have driven humanity underground following a devastating war, and reclaiming the surface. One of the popular abbreviations for the game's title in Japanese is メガニケ (MegaNikke; with mega being the short for 女神, megami). Named after Nike_(mythology), the Greek goddess of victory.
