She originally appeared in the Capcom fighting game franchise Vampire, also known as Darkstalkers, and is effectively the most famous character from the franchise, making appearances in games like Marvel vs Capcom series, Capcom vs SNK series, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and Cross Edge, and Project X Zone. She could be considered to be even more popular and recognizable than Vampire as, discounting rereleases, the Vampire series has not had a new entry in years whereas Morrigan continues to make appearances. She is the daughter of Belial Aensland and when she was born, Belial was shocked at the enormous amount of power Morrigan had. To counter the possibility of Morrigan losing control of her immense power, he split his daughter's soul into two halves and split one half into two once he realized that the parts of Morrigan's soul were trying to reunite with each other. Morrigan's soul was now divided into three parts: one inside Morrigan, one inside Belial, and the last one eventually became Lilith Aensland. Belial never informed Morrigan of this decision he made and even after having her soul split multiple times, she is still very powerful. As the daughter of Belial, she is the princess of the Makai kingdom and will take the throne after his death. However, Morrigan is a hedonistic woman and often prefers to spend time having fun fighting others and attending parties. As a succubus, she is very sultry and seductive in the way she acts towards others and her dialogue and some of her attacks can be sexually suggestive. Although she seems more concerned with having fun, she gradually develops a sense of responsibility over the course of her adventures and becomes close with Lilith. She is infamous for having her original sprite reused (without any changes) in most of her 2D fighting game appearances, which often clashed with the newer sprites other characters had. She finally got a makeover in 3D for her more recent appearances in games like Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
