Now Viewing: mashima_hiroTag type: Artist 真島 ヒロ Male Mangaka born on May 3, 1977. He is a mangaka most famous for creating Fairy_Tail and Rave_Master. He predominantly works on fantasy action adventure manga. Like many other shonen action mangaka, he was influenced by Toriyama Akira, the creator of the immensely influential Dragon Ball series, and Mashima grew up reading Dragon Ball and playing the Dragon Quest franchise which are all drawn by Toriyama. He considers Miura Kentaro's Berserk to be his favorite manga. He has a habit of naming characters after seasons. His female characters tend to have large busts. He is known for being a quick drawer and at one point completed 65 pages, 3 of them in color, within a week. He also displayed his drawing speed/skill in front of an audience at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con where he completed a sketch of Natsu in under 3 minutes. He also frequently posts color sketches on his Twitter, mostly of Fairy Tail characters. He has a habit of reusing his own characters: his manga will import a character, with design and name unchanged, from his previous manga. However, said character is not meant to literally be the same character as the predecessor, so his works aren't in the same continuity. Said character ends up playing a different role in the succeeding story. For example, Plue debuted in his first manga Rave Master, and returned in Fairy Tail and Edens Zero. While working on Fairy Tail, his general work schedule consisted of scripts and storyboards on Monday, rough sketches on Tuesday, and drawing and inking Wednesday through Friday. Altogether, he worked 17 hours a day for six days of the week. The weekend is predominantly spent playing Monster Hunter games. He also wrote and drew a manga based off of said franchise, Monster Hunter Orage. He often draws inspiration from his life for his stories. The absence of fathers for the stars of Rave and Fairy Tail, Haru and Natsu respectively, was inspired by the death of his father when Mashima was still a young boy. His art style is often compared to and sometimes confused with that of Oda Eiichiro's, but Mashima and Oda have never collaborated before and Mashima has never been an assistant to any mangaka. Yoshikawa_Miki, the creator of Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, worked as one of Mashima's assistants.
