The novels began on August 25, 2008 and are still ongoing. It was adapted into a manga and an anime TV series, which aired from April 14, 2011 to June 30, 2011. The anime is animated by J.C._Staff and is their fifth anime starring Kugimiya Rie as a tsundere female lead/love interest. It is directed by Watanabe Takashi who had previously directed the Shakugan no Shana adaptation. The anime is written by Shirane Hideki. The characters are designed by Iwakura_Kazunori. The music is composed by Ozawa Takumi. Majima_Junji who had previously played male lead Ryuuji from Toradora opposite Kugimiya once again plays the male lead. The series has also spawned a manga spinoff titled Hidan_no_Aria_AA. Touyama Kinji is a high school student attends Tokyo Butei High, but he, and everyone else at the school, is not like other high school students. Tokyo Butei High is actually a school that trains its students to become law enforcers with skills that rival Special Forces members. The students are trained to use their superpowers to become Butei who are sent out to catch dangerous criminals. Kinji, however, does not have much interest in his studies at Tokyo Butei High in spite of the formidable skills he is downplaying, and is strongly considering dropping out of Tokyo Butei High altogether. However, his initial plan to leave the school is put on an indefinite hold once he is targeted by an anonymous killer who is going after Butei fighters. Kinji is rescued by the talented Assault member Kanzaki H Aria. Kinji ends up working with Aria on catching the Butei killer and handling other dangerous missions and the two of them gradually develop a romantic relationship. Most of the cast are named after mythological, historical, and literary characters.
