A wedgie can happen naturally by having one's underwear (especially thongs) "ride up" one's butt crack. A wedgie can also result from a prank or bullying. One person will usually grab the victim's underpants and pull strongly, causing the victim to feel pain in his/her crotch. Wedgies are commonly featured in popular works, either as a form of low comedy or as a behaviour representative of bullying. In such works, briefs are usually the type of underpants that a wedgie is performed upon. When performed on females, a wedgie results in a woman's panties/thong rubbing or chafing her crotch. When performed on males, a wedgie can cause testicular or scrotal damage. A self-inflicted wedgie is a self_wedgie.
