She is a powerful Ripple user and Joseph and Caesar seek her help in Italy once they realize they are not strong enough to defeat the Pillar Men. She puts them through a brutal but ultimately effective training regimen. She also possesses the Red Stone of Asia which would also assist the heroes in battling the Pillar Men. Her name is taken from the band Lisa Lisa and the Cult Regimen. She is also the inspiration for the Street Fighter character Rose who is an Italian woman who also wears and uses a scarf in combat. Rose also wears a similar outfit to Lisa Lisa. She technically makes her debut in Part 1 Phantom Blood as the baby that Erina Pendleton rescued at the end of the arc. She also turns out to be Joseph Joestar's long-lost mother who was forced to abandon Joseph after she became a fugitive. The reason she looks as young as she does despite being middle-aged is due to her mastery of Hamon. Araki designed her to be different from most female anime/manga characters at the time who were cute and gentle, Japanese male readers' feminine ideal. Araki, inspired by a female tutor he had in elementary school, designed Lisa Lisa to be intimidating and imposing. The creation of Lisa Lisa also indirectly led to Araki being inspired to come up with Stands, which became what the series would be most famous for. Prior to Battle Tendency, there were few female fighters and in order to justify Lisa Lisa acting as male heroes Joseph Joestar and Caesar Zeppeli's respected mentor, Araki made her a master of supernatural abilities as opposed to raw physical strength. In Araki's words, "if the battle is between those with supernatural powers, physical appearance has nothing to do with strength. The Ripple is Lisa Lisa's supernatural ability. The idea of "looks being irrelevant in super natural abilities" is what led to the introduction of Stands in part 3."
