Now Viewing: imaishi_hiroyukiTag type: Artist (今石 洋之) Animator and director born on October 4, 1971 in Tokyo, Japan. He is most well known for directing Tengen_Toppa_Gurren-lagann and Kill_La_Kill He began his career as an animator in 1995 when he joined Gainax and worked as an animator on Neon Genesis Evangelion as well as many other Gainax works. While he was still at Gainax, he made his directorial debut with Dead_Leaves in 2004 and followed that OVA up with 2 Gainax TV series, Tengen_Toppa_Gurren-lagann and Panty_&_Stocking_with_Garterbelt, the latter of which was his swan song at the studio. He and many other animators left the studio to form Trigger_(company) with Ohtsuka_Masahiko. He cites animator Kanada_Yoshinori as his main influence on him as an animator and all of the anime he has directed has paid tribute to him in some way. He has a wild and often surreal style of animation that alternates being both highly fluid and intentionally limited, often within the same scene. His directorial efforts tend to have a very fast and manic pace. His primarily works on action and comedy anime. His action anime work tends to involve very over the top action scenes, even by anime and manga standards and often star rebellious and hot-blooded heroes, at least one of whom is a sexy action-oriented female as the lead. He also likes to insert plenty of sexual innuendo in his work and is noted to have a fascination with drills. His anime often have numerous references to other works through visual homages and cameos, as well as his past work. Voice actors who played the main characters in one of his anime will often reappear in his next anime in smaller roles. He frequently collaborates with playwright/anime screenwriter Nakashima Kazuki whom he first met and worked with Re:Cutie Honey because he feels that the two of them complement each other well. Uchuu Patrol Luluco reveals that quite a bit of his work as well as Trigger's work in general takes place in the same universe. He won an award for Personal Best at the 12th animation Kobe Festival in 2008 for his work on Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann.
