Unlike past Key novels, it was adapted into anime by J.C. Staff. It has also been adapted into manga multiple times. While the original novel has no sex scenes, the rerelease Ecstasy did include sex scenes and expanded on the original story with additional characters as well as changing some lines from the original. Ecstasy also received a family friendly version that kept the added story elements, but removed the sex scenes. Little Busters! Ecstasy holds the distinction of being the longest visual novel created by Key to date to the point that Little Busters! Ecstasy needed to be released on two DVDs. It has also spawned many manga adaptations/spinoffs. Not to be confused with The Pillows song of the same name. Naoe Riki, Natsume Kyousuke, Inohara Masato, Natsume Rin, and Miyazawa Kengo are the Little Busters, a group of close childhood friends who have gone on many misadventures with each other. They are all now in high school, and Kyousuke, who is older than the others and is a third year student, will graduate soon and will likely be unable to spend as much time with them as he used to. Riki also knows that they will all graduate eventually and likely be separated. He feels melancholic when he thinks about the group's impending separation and proposes that they do something together. Using some questionable logic, Kyousuke hits upon the idea of organizing a baseball team and Riki is sent to recruit team members. Riki, the newly recruited team members, and the rest of the Little Busters! develop a strong friendship with each other as they participate in activities. However, Riki is troubled by a strange message he and Rin found one day attached to one of the cats that Rin likes to play with. The anonymous message states that if one wants to know the secret of the world, one must complete certain tasks. Rin is excited about this message and is eager to perform the tasks. As Rin and Riki come closer to discovering the secret, the two of them find their lives being changed forever. The visual novel includes fighting and baseball mini games besides the standard visual novel dialogue. The mini games depict the characters in a chibi sprite format. Unlike past Key novels, two character designers worked on character designs: Hinoue_Itaru and Na-Ga. Maeda Jun, Kashida Leo, Tonokawa Yuuta, and Shirikori Chika wrote the storyline. Maeda again contributed music to the novel's soundtrack along with Orito Shinji, PMMK, Manack, Orito Shinji, and Togoshi Magome. The visual novel has also spawned a sequel/spinoff titled Kud Wafter, which makes Noumi Kudryakva the female lead much like Tomoyo in Tomoyo After.
