A large amount of evil spirits have emerged from underground to wreak havoc in Gensokyo. Hakurei Reimu and Kirisame Marisa head deep underground to put a stop to the influx of evil spirits. As either Reimu or Marisa descend deeper underground, they soon uncover something far more dangerous than the evil spirits being sent above ground, something that threatens all of Gensokyo. Reimu and Marisa are the main playable characters, but they both have assist characters who help them from above ground. The game's famous climactic battle, with Reimu as the heroine, has also been recreated in 3d animation by Mudspike who has also done other 3d Touhou battles.
