It is their first original creation since Munto and reunites director Yamada Naoko, writer Yoshida Reiko, and character designer Horiguchi_Yukiko who all worked on K-ON! making this series a sort of spiritual successor. Whereas that series emphasized friendship, this series focuses on community. Music is composed by Kataoka Tomoko. The series ran from January 10, 2013 to March 28, 2013 and was followed by a movie sequel called Tamako Love Story, which takes one of the romantic subplots of the original series and makes it the main plot, making the movie into more of a romantic comedy. Kitashirakawa Tamako is the eldest daughter of Kitashirakawa family who run a mochi shop in the close-knit community of Usagiyama Shopping District. She is a normal friendly girl who spends much of her time outside of high school working at the mochi shop. At school she participates in the baton club with her friends Kanna and Midori. Unbeknownst to her, her male childhood friend Mochizou is in love with her. But Tamako's life is shaken up by the newest member of the community, a talking bird named Dera Mochimazzi who is from a faraway country. He tells everyone that he is on a mission to find a bride for his country's prince. The series follows the daily lives of Tamako and her friends.
