They are a type of Koopas with spikes on their shell, allowing them to fly. Known in Japan as "Togezou", "Supainii" or "Togetoge", depending on the game they appear in. Spinies/Spinys are small, spine-shelled quadrupedal Koopas with a menacing look that first appeared in Super_Mario_Bros._1.
